There has been a rise in the incidences of harassment of breastfeeding mothers nationwide, but the recent events in Michigan have become too much to endure. Mothers are being asked to feed their children in the restrooms at Wal-Mart, a women’s fitness facility, courtrooms, even on public transportation. The unmitigated fact is that the list goes on and on. This madness has to stop! Breastfeeding Mothers Unite is a grassroots organization formed to bring breastfeeding awareness to the community and to UNITE mothers. We need to bring as much attention to a mother’s right to nurse her child whenever and wherever that child gets hungry.

As our first major event Breastfeeding Mothers Unite presents The Million Mothers & Supporters March.

This march is envisioned and intended to push the decision makers into formulating a law that will make it illegal to harass breastfeeding mothers. July 18, 2012 at 10am ONE MILLION mothers will march on Lansing to show the world just how powerful mothers really are.

Keynote speakers for the event include Peggy O’Mara, publisher, editor and owner of Mothering Magazine and the author of four books: Having a Baby Naturally: The Mothering Magazine Guide to Pregnancy and Childbirth, Natural Family Living: The Mothering Magazine Guide to Parenting, The Way Back Home: Essays on Life and Family, and A Quiet Place: Essays on Life and Family
 

Along with the march, we are planning a black tie gala. This will be the perfect place for us to get to know one another and show even more of a UNITED FRONT.
